The main difference between raw and boiled linseed oil is drying time. Raw linseed oil takes a significantly longer time to dry than boiled linseed oil. This is because boiled linseed oil has additives, such as metallic salts, that act as drying agents, speeding up the polymerization process. While both offer similar nourishment and protection to wood, boiled linseed oil is generally preferred for most woodworking projects due to its faster drying time. Raw can take days to dry.
